Superpower Satiety: REAL-LIFE Benefits Beyond Just Feeling Full

THAT ELUSIVE FEELING of satiety.

It has become increasingly normal to feel full but still hungry (i.e., craving sweet or salty provisions) or feel stuffed + bloated. We've lost that satiating feeling. Satiety implies a lack of cravings and irritability. Most foods that we consume on the "Standard American Diet" seem to induce both.

How does one achieve a state of satiety — feel not stuffed or bloated but nourished and calm — when convenient breakfast, lunch, and dinner options are often a blood-sugar-hijacking minefield of sodium- and sugar-laden, processed, refined, and packaged foods? Here's the science-backed answer: A well-balanced, bio-individual ratio of protein, fat, and (blood-sugar balancing) carbs from nutrient-dense whole foods will enhance overall satiety (and, as a welcome side-effect, prevent overeating).

And there's a LIFE-AFFIRMING reason for reaching that satiating set point with a balanced meal full of nutrient-dense goodness. Because satiety has REAL-LIFE benefits.

Satiety lovingly nourishes our nervous system. It signals our nervous system safety and puts us in a rest + digest state. When we are DEEPLY NOURISHED and feel good (i.e., experience no stress of digestion), we are in a calm state. When we are in a calm state, we are more grounded and are able to make better decisions. Better decisions = better life experience.

Satiety also moves us away from energy crash-induced distractions. Because satiety contributes to blood-sugar balance, we experience less cravings and, as a consequence, less obsessive thoughts about food. When our thoughts are not hijacked by cravings, we are more focused. We are not derailed by dive-bombing for the chocolate chip cookie, when our emotional triggers get pulled. We have more self-control and can concentrate on the things that matter most instead. Quality time with friends and loved ones. Taking the first step towards creating our vision of life and becoming the change that we actually want to see in this world. Satiety, in this sense, serves both us — and our community.

Satiety is the single best way to manage food- and stress-related distractions — and to be more focused. So get off that blood-sugar rollercoaster, and eat to satiety with nutrient-dense whole foods.

I've already declared it:

Satiety is the Jedi move to manage food- and stress-related distractions — and to get more focused. Think of it as a useful + effective tool for making food work for you, rather than against you. Because it is moving you towards a life that supports overall health and your aspirations, rather than the numerous (unhealthy) distractions that may seem like a good idea in the moment. But... only in the moment. So don't columbo for the cookie jar. Eat a protein- and fiber-rich meal with a dose of good fat. Then take the next immediate step towards living your best live. You'll have the calm focus + sustained energy to just do it.
